Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, owner and producer of Artadi wines, is recognized as one of the biggest names in business in Spain. The winery was once a cooperative of 13 growers who own well-planted vineyards around the town of Laguardia in the Alavesa wine region of Rioja. Juan Carlos saw the potential of these wonderful vineyards and bought Bodega, immediately revising the wine-making philosophy and style. Modern wineries with an emphasis on fruit-controlled wines, characterized by the topography of individual grape-growing sites - far different from the philosophy of traditional Rioja producers. French oak, used, not American, allows the principle diversity, Tempranillo, to manifest eloquent nature.

From the 2 hectare El Pison vineyard, vines planted in 1945, all the way to his properties in Alicante and Navarra, he is both a talented craftsman. Mastery of Monastrell and Garnacha have now been added to recognized and alchemy gifts with Tempranillo; attention to detail is demonstrated at all stages of the process, from pruning in vineyards to six additional sorting trays in the winery, then fermentation in specially designed barrels Especially to ensure optimal fruit and tannin extract. Completely outstanding results.

Vinas De Gain comes from vines over 25 years of age and it is a suberb quality wine, 100% Tempranillo from fruit grown in vineyards at high altitude in Rioja Alavesa. This is the cheapest product in Artadi's range, but it exhibits impressive purity with flavors layers reminiscent of Burgundian's complexity. Artadi produces exemplary and unburnt Riojas, including superb Reservas and unique vineyard wines like Viña El Pison. A luxurious cuvée Gran Reserva, Grandes Añadas, was first produced in 1994.

His Navarran Bodega is located in the village of Santa Cruz, using 100% Grenache from 100-year-old vines. As Navarra continues to emerge from the darkness of illustrious neighbor Rioja, Artadi's wines are helping us understand its quality and identity.
